Talascend is currently seeking a Senior Licensing Engineer – Nuclear for a DIRECT HIRE opportunity with our client located in Newport, Michigan.
Mid-level nuclear licensing engineer position performs Nuclear Licensing, Compliance and technical activities that require the application of standard engineering techniques, procedures, and regulatory requirements in carrying out tasks under direct supervision. Maintains knowledge of NRC regulations and industry standards to ensure compliance with the Operating License and related federal and state regulations. Provides support, assessment and recommends direction of licensing functions in accordance with site needs. Implements regulatory and compliance programs with federal, state and local regulatory agencies. Makes decisions independently on licensing engineering problems and methods. They are not only expected to identify problems, but also provide solutions. Their tasks may include complex issues in licensing and compliance. In addition, provides leadership role for teams on problems of medium scope.
Accountable for assigned Nuclear Licensing program areas including coordinating activities, implementing strategies, and monitoring results.
Ensures program compliance with applicable regulations, codes and standards.
Maintains awareness of industry performance issues through research, self-assessment, and benchmarking and incorporates lessons learned.
Makes recommendations based on the analysis and trending of plant data.
Provides expertise including development of plant practices and procedures and provides technical directions in one or more specialized areas.
Using prescribed methods, performs specific and limited portions of a broader assignment of an experienced licensing engineers.
Applies standard regulatory guidance and techniques in specific situations, adjusts and correlates information and data, recognizes differences and discrepancies in results, and follows assignments through a series of related detailed steps or processes.
May travel to various locations when performing assigned tasks.
Develops effective regulatory strategy based on industry and NRC guidance documents.
Maintains effective communication between the client, NRC, and industry on assigned regulatory projects.
Conducts verification of implementation work to ensure compliance with regulations.
Develops and maintains relationships with NEI, EPRI, INPO, and other industry organizations as directed by management to ensure site awareness of developing trends.
Candidate should have a solid understanding of nuclear power plant design and of regulatory processes supporting the design and licensing bases, including the documentation that supports these processes.
Must be able to work in a high-impact, time-constraining regulatory environment while maintaining a professional relationship with representatives of regulatory agencies.
Nuclear Licensing experience desired.
Minimum of five years of related experience in plant design / construction / operation or maintenance, applicable Navy nuclear experience equally acceptable.
Must have strong organizational, written and verbal skills, with demonstrated competencies in technical writing, facilitation and decision-making.
Physical capability to work in the plant i.e. climb stairs, work in hot environment, work in radiation/contamination areas.
Competencies: Dependability, Verbal and Written Communication, Inter-personal, Teamwork, Adaptability, and Ethics.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology or Science required. Master’s Degree preferred.
