Under direct supervision, performs safety and health functions as assigned by management.
The specific work assignment may include duties or activities that assist and support management in one or more of the following functional areas, in addition to other duties as assigned: Maintains site-wide industrial safety programs and policies, incorporating appropriate safety and health standards from OSHA.
Program areas include electrical, explosive, high pressure, construction, and robotic safety.
Typical duties include:
Supports site operations with comprehensive knowledge of industrial safety regulations
Performs assigned tasks from detailed instructions and established policies and procedures
Analyzes data and makes recommendations
Develops and conducts team member training and quality assurance programs
Provides technical advice to less experienced technicians and specialists
Performs calculations and analyses necessary to support trending of issues
Prepares or assists with the preparation of studies and reports
Ensures applicable laws and regulations are enforced in accordance with OSHA, EPA, NRC, DOW and other guidelines
Assists with all routine functions of the work group
Participates in performing surveys and inspections
Assists with testing and servicing safety equipment and systems
May maintain storage areas, consumable supply inventories and personnel protection equipment
Assists as directed in performing surveys and inspections
Compiles data from technical reports
Performs duties of general/routine complexity in nature
Other job related duties as assigned
Maintains knowledge of and demonstrates ability to perform work safely in accordance with all approved safety policies, procedures and applicable regulations and performs assigned duties in a safe manner
Actively participates in Safety Work Groups
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Physical requirement to walk, stand, and stoop or bend over frequently
Demonstrates accuracy, thoroughness and attention to detail
Proficient with computers and Microsoft Office Suite
Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA, EPA, NRC, DOE and other regulations and guidelines
BA/BS degree in a related field and 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Typical experience ranges from 5 - 8 years
For Safety and Health Specialist III the minimum requirements are as followed:
BA/BS degree in a related field and 7 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Typical experience ranges from 7 - 10 years.
For Safety and Health Specialist, Senior the minimum requirements are as followed:
BA/BS degree in a related field and 9 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Typical experience ranges from 9 - 12 years.
