Health physics technicians ensure workplace safety in industries that use radioactive materials or expose people to radioactivity. Technicians often implement procedures and programs crafted by health physicists, which can include monitoring nuclear activity, collecting data and analyzing results. Health physics technicians can also aid in the design of safer work environments or work in a regulatory capacity performing site inspections to certify the safety of facilities. Individuals commonly complete an associate's degree or certificate program prior to seeking employment in this field, although employers will hire candidates who only hold high school diplomas, since a good amount of on-the-job training is provided.

High school diploma or equivalent
Interest and or background in scientific subjects as well as mathematics
Must be in good physical condition (must be able to lift 50 lbs.) and be willing to work in a dynamic environment.
