PMQS is currently looking for an experienced full-time Nuclear Engineering Safety Specialist to work at the Pantex Plant near Amarillo, TX


Participate in the development of Documented Safety Analysis (DSA) and safety basis

documents utilizing DSA process, format, and content in accordance with current DSA

documents and standards and project development activities for safety basis

documentation development and review. Maintain schedules through discussions with

customers and coordination of issues with all responsible parties for the development of

these projects. Process and review DSA change packages as directed. Perform and

review hazard and accident analysis in support of DSA development. Perform Unreviewed

Safety Question Evaluations (USQE) and USQ Independent Reviews.

The employee primarily performs work requiring advanced knowledge. The advanced

knowledge must be in a field of science or learning; and the advanced knowledge must be

customarily acquired by a prolonged course of specialized intellectual instruction.

Advanced knowledge is generally used to analyze, interpret and make deductions from

varying facts or circumstances.

Independent judgment and discretion involves the comparison and evaluation of possible

courses of conduct and having the authority to make an independent choice, free from

immediate direction with respect to matters of significance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Ability to develop or learn to develop, implement and maintain DSA and safety basis documentation in accordance with 10 CFR 830, 10 CFR 851, 29 CFR 1910.119, applicable DOE Orders and Standards and CNS Pantex procedures; ability to develop or learn to develop hazard and accident analysis, prepare DSA and safety basis documents, revise documents with rigorous change control, prepare Unreviewed Safety Question Evaluations; and ability to present information clearly and effectively through the oral and written word.


The specific job level will be determined based upon relevant education and experience of the selected candidate, per the following criteria:

Entry-Level Engineer (Associate – Senior Associate)

Bachelors' degree in engineering, science, or other technical discipline with 0-2 years of

related experience or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Mid-Level Engineer (Specialist – Senior Specialist)

Bachelors’ degree in engineering, science, or other technical discipline combined with 4-

7 years of DSA related technical experience.

Senior-Level Engineer (Senior Specialist – Advisor)

Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or other technical discipline, and/or holds a

Texas Professional Engineering License (PE), combined with 7-12 years of related


The job related and nuclear experience requirements noted above are not a

prerequisite for employment. These experience requirements can be satisfied

based on experience obtained following employment. In the interim, until

experience requirements are met, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that

could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2)

This position requires HRP certification. If the successful candidate is not currently

certified in the HRP, the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the

position. If the successful candidate is currently certified in the HRP, a review for HRP

certification in the appropriate category will be performed by the hiring manager and the

HRP Management Official, and the certification process in the appropriate category will

be initiated upon assumption of the position.

This position requires a Q clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered

regardless of their current clearance status.
