Mechanical engineer who is familiar with both design and design/build delivery methods for projects. As a mid/sr level engineer, candidate will provide technical leadership/mentorship to junior engineers/designers and will review other mechanical engineers' work for accuracy, compliance and constructability. Must be able to estimate costs for design efforts and have experience with technical and cost proposals. May also assist in negotiations with Architectural-Engineering firms and General Contractors. Candidate should be skilled at reviewing contractor submittals and respond to requests for information (RFI's), and will be responsible for the professional quality, technical accuracy, and coordination, (including inter-discipline coordination), of all designs, drawings, specifications, and other services.
•Bachelors or Masters Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
•Professional Registration as a Licensed Mechanical Engineer. The license must be current and issued by a United States of America state, Commonwealth, the District of Columbia, or a U.S. territory.
•A minimum of 10 years of specialized experience in mechanical systems and equipment design/construction (HVAC, pumps, piping, etc.)
• Demonstrated experience with evaluation of new and existing commercial and industrial facilities.
•Have practical experience with construction site visits and ability to produce field progress reports as needed.
•Demonstrate experience with interdisciplinary coordination required for deliverables and contract document preparation.
•Experience in Construction Management/Scheduling and Cost-estimating.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills in dealing with others to ensure that customer requests or needs are met. Acknowledges and clarifies customer inquiries, requests, or complaints to ensure that needs are identified, documented and addressed.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Engineering-level mathematics required. Ability to apply mathematical solutions to complex engineering problems.
COMMUNICATION: Communicates clearly and concisely in speech and writing. Demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to unspoken meaning and nonverbal cues. Facilitates communication across the organization and effectively interfaces with customer, contractor, and site personnel on a daily basis.
SKILL SETS: Demonstrates effective use of systems, tools and other resources to reflect understanding and clear insights of processes, systems and methodologies of process improvement. Ability to visualize alternative processes and think conceptually.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Be able to obtain DOE L or Q and/or DOD S/TS. Currently having either is a plus but not required. Applicants selected may be subject to a Federal background investigation and might be required to meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information/areas.
• Self-starter, resourceful, with an attention to detail and the ability to work productively and independently on multiple projects under strict deadlines.
• Design and technical competence in developing and producing complete Construction Documents, including drawings and specifications, for new and renovation projects.
• Have a working knowledge and experience with main mechanical applications software for sizing ductwork and piping systems.
• Ability to design DDC control systems including production of the sequences of operation, point lists and control diagrams.
• Have working knowledge of the latest UFCs, UFGS, NFPA, International Mechanical and Plumbing Codes.
• Proficient in 3D modeling such as Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks.
Registered Professional Engineer in one or more states, current NCEES record a plus.
