Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for an IH Technician opportunity for our customer in Los Alamos, NM for the LANL Facility. DOE Q preferred.
Bachelors degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least 1 year of related experience
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities
Independently conducts technical operational safety and health reviews and inspections to determine deficiencies that require corrective actions, reports results and assists in recommending corrective actions requiring implementation.
Acts as technical advisor and coordinator on safety and occupational health issues.
May implement specific specialized safety sub-programs such as traffic safety, explosives safety, non-ionizing radiation safety, hazardous material control and management, confined space entry, laser safety, electrical safety, fire protection and prevention, material handling safety, construction safety, pressure safety, training, and other Laboratory health and safety programs, as assigned.
Independently conducts industrial hygiene surveys and all associated reporting and data entry.
Provides advice and guidance to support resolution of safety and health issues.
Calibrates field industrial hygiene equipment (air sampling pumps, noise meters, and other real-time monitors), and performs industrial hygiene field measurements, safety measurements, and safety evaluations.
Evaluates work for compliance with current regulations and assists in compliance.
Completes survey/evaluation forms and memoranda documenting results of surveys, observations, compliance deficiencies, and current regulations.
Makes recommendations for changes in the work environment based on health and safety requirements.
Keeps current on existing and proposed changes in industrial hygiene and safety regulations and maintains training and qualifications required for work assignments.
Adheres to all Laboratory and industry regulatory guidance and governance specific to industrial hygiene/safety.
Ensures all industrial hygiene/safety work, materials, processes and final products meet quality specifications and are completed according to established requirements.
Fosters a mutually respectful work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment.
Examines and tests machinery and equipment, such as lifting devices, machine guards, or scaffolding, to ensure the machinery and equipment meet appropriate safety regulations.
Compiles, verifies, and correlates data relating to industrial hygiene and safety issues.
Completes preparation of studies, reports and other tasks as specifically assigned.
Performs detailed calculations, preliminary analyses, and field monitoring.
Provides training and guidance on industrial hygiene-related topics.
Required Skills/Job Knowledge
Working knowledge of OSHA requirements, NFPA life safety code, and code of federal regulations 1910 CFR General Industry and 1926 Construction, and other relevant health and safety regulations and requirements.
Working knowledge of and proficient experience with health and safety controls and the surveillance of related safety measures and requirements.
Working knowledge of and proficient experience with industrial hygiene/safety-related risk assessments and corrective actions.
Working knowledge of Laboratory and federal, state, and local laws, regulations, policies, and procedures pertaining to industrial hygiene/safety.
Working knowledge of common and unique work hazards, occupational safety practices, operating configuration, and lockout/tag out policies and procedures.
Working knowledge of, and proficient ability to apply, IHS policies and procedures, including the IHS quality plan and Laboratory industrial hygiene and safety manual.
Working knowledge of the Laboratory's environmental protection policies, practices, and procedures.
Completed training and qualifications specific to the work assignments.
Proficient skill in observing worksite procedures and physical layouts, and in interviewing employees to gather information on operations, material used, and equipment that may result in illness, impairment, injury, or impact to the health of workers and members of the community.
Proficiency and ability to research information sources (i.e., material safety data sheets, health hazard information module (HHIM), regulations, standards, other agencies and experts) for health effects data applicable to work operations.
Proficiency with, and knowledge of office automation application (i.e., spreadsheets, graphics, database management, communication practices, compliance tracking system (CTS)).
Working knowledge of industrial ventilation design, evaluations standards, and guidance as provided by the ASHRAE industrial ventilation manual, and related publications.
Proficiency and ability to coordinate with developers and engineering personnel (to include subcontractors) to ensure timely access to documents for health hazards review of systems and facilities.
Proficiency and ability to review work plans, blueprints, specifications, and other documents to ensure the application of health standards for illness and injury prevention in the construction and modification of facilities.
Proficient skill in the preparation and presentation of industrial hygiene/safety reports.
