Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for a Waste Certification Specialist opportunity for our customer in Aiken, SC.

Generator Certification Official (GCO) supports the Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) Waste Management Program by managing the SRNL excess chemicals, residues, legacy materials and equipment disposition efforts, as directed by the SRNL Waste Regulatory and Environmental Compliance Manager. Provides technical support for waste management activities at the facility level. Expertise in waste types includes Hazardous Waste (HW), Mixed Waste (MW), Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA) Waste, Low-Level Waste (LLW), Universal Waste, Asbestos Waste, Beryllium Waste and Sanitary Waste. Primary facility resource for waste planning, sample plan development, data review, waste characterization (including physical and radiological), and waste manifesting.
Facilitate adherence to or carry out activities related to the Excess Chemicals and Residue Disposition Plan for materials no longer needed to support SRNL missions.
Develop and implement characterization methods (including the sampling plans as needed) for SRNL excess chemicals and residues.
Provide the primary interface between SRNL, SW, and HMTR for waste planning and logistics.
Prepare waste characterization documentation and manifests using the 1S Manual process.
Direct waste packaging and transfer activities.
Provide waste transfer / shipment information for facility schedules.
Coordinate material transfer with chemical coordinators, facilitate chain of custody documentation and update FMTS/New chemical management software.
Schedule trucking and other resource (RPD, Rigging, Ops) support.
Develop and maintain regulatory files and documents.
Provide input to the annual Waste Forecast.
Complete monthly and weekly container staging area inspections.
Understand Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA) and Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) requirements.
Understand DOE Order 435.1 Radiological Waste Management Requirements.
Candidate will work as part of a disposition team. Good communication skills, both written and oral, and problem solving abilities are important parts of this job.
Services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. Work is performed from approved standards or special procedures, manuals training, verbal turnover, and management directions. Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.
Bachelors of Science Degree or closely related discipline and at least 7 years of practical experience in waste management, environmental environment, laboratory operations, or nuclear operations. Or An Associate’s Degree or closely related discipline and at least 11 years of practical experience would be considered to be equivalent.
Or A high school diploma / GED and at least 15 additional years of practical experience would also be considered equivalent.
EXPERIENCE / SKILLS:
- Computer skills with ability to compile, store, and receive data on computer is required
- Work experience at a DOE Site, Nuclear Industrial Site, Chemical Processing Facility, or Laboratory is required
- Candidate must have work experience in the areas of Environmental Protection, Waste Operations, Waste Disposal, Laboratory Operations, or Nuclear Operations
- It is preferred that Candidate has been qualified per SRS Generator Certification Official (GCO) course ZOBITM00.
Applicant is required to be willing to working a flexible work schedule. A 40-hour work week is scheduled. All positions are subject to working night and /or weekend shift schedules. SRNS utilizes various work schedules; including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B). Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each work day has a 30-minute lunch.
AREA SECURITY ACCESS:
A DOE “L” (or higher) security clearance is preferred, but not initially required; however, candidate must be capable of obtaining a DOE “L” (or higher) security clearance to perform assigned duties.
Citizen of U.S. is required.
