Electrical Designer

Summary of Position Duties
Electrical Design position (Engineer or Designer) with a minimum of 15 years’ experience in the design, construction, checkout, commissioning of plant electrical and power distribution in chemical, or power plants. Knowledgeable in 5kV and 480V distribution. Position has responsibility for site electrical design, including preparation of electrical equipment specifications, development of single line diagrams, electrical wiring diagrams, layout and circuitry design and other working drawings as required for construction and maintenance in an operating plant environment. Related responsibilities include developing cost estimates, schedules, requisitions, work orders, vendor drawing review, bid evaluations, and support of projects.
This position is responsible for providing field support for all designs.
Job Experience and Education
• Design Experience in low and medium voltage switchgear, and motor control centers required
• BS in Electrical Engineering (PE preferred); Designer with 2+ year technical degree preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Extensive electrical equipment knowledge is required, including but not limited to low and medium voltage switchgear, motor controllers, protective relaying, transformers, motors, AC/DC drives, and uninterruptable power systems
• Broad knowledge of the National Electric Code and other related industry codes and standards as applied to industrial facilities and power generating stations is required
• Familiar with in-plant electrical system protection preferred
• Experience with the design of electrical heat trace systems is desired
• Ability to solve problems and make sound engineering judgements based on experience and proper application of good engineering practices
• Experience with Arc Flash, load studies and short-circuit calculations is desired
• Experience taking projects from conception through commissioning and startup. Must be capable of managing small task force groups and coordinating with projects with other disciplines
• Knowledge of NFPA 497, 499, an NEC Article 500 is preferred
• Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD is required
• Experience with 3D modeling is preferred
• Experience with lighting systems design is preferred
