[Mechanical Engineer] Mechanical Field Engineers (3 positions) @ PPPL, Princeton, NJ

To assist NSTX-U Recovery Project team with the preparation of detailed work plans and execution of assigned tasks in the field, including technical oversight and resolution of problems arising during task execution.

Perform the following in accordance with PPPL and NSTX-U policies, programs and procedures:
Prepare statements of work to support procurement activities, as needed

Prepare procedures and work plans for completing assigned tasks which may include field
inspections and tests, or the fabrication, installation modification for mechanical systems and components

Initiate required PPPL site permits and support completion of Job Hazards Analyses

Assist PPPL supervisors and lead technicians in pre-job worker orientation, briefing and training

Provide oversight and technical direction to safely accomplish assigned tasks, including the identification and resolution of problems observed in the field

Create or initiate engineering designs to resolve problems arising during the completion of assigned tasks including their execution in accordance with PPPL’s configuration management process (e.g. Engineering Change Notices)

Review and provide the administrated close-out of completed tasks

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Experience

BS degree in Mechanical Engineering

10 years + experience in construction, operations or maintenance at commercial nuclear power plants or research laboratories in the Department of Energy complex

Strong written communications skills including the preparation of technical procedures

Ability to work under highly disciplined controls and stringent safety environments

Strong leadership skills with ability to understand written, detailed work instructions

Ability to communicate with supervisor, co-workers and front-line workers

Experience working with multi-trade workforce such as electricians, riggers, and heavy machine operators

No medical restrictions on performing physically demanding work, including lifting up to 50 pounds

No medical restriction working near static magnetic fields

Capable of climbing ladders and working at heights from scaffolding, platforms and powered aerial lifts

Possible night shift work. (3:30pm to midnight. )
