SUMMARY: The Industrial Hygienist job family is responsible for developing, implementing and administering
industrial hygiene program. Serves as a resource for line management to develop and administer a proactive industrial
hygiene program that minimizes risk to the employees and the environment.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide specific support, management and/or coordination of ES&H programs as assigned to include the following:
Provide leadership and support for implementing the Implements and provides oversight and technical support in
the practical application of regulatory procedures/requirements and standards applicable to the industrial hygiene discipline.
Monitor work practices in the assigned area.
Conduct hazard analyses consistent with the Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS) process to anticipate and control health hazards.
Review operations, procedures, and work control documents that involve hazardous materials or agents.
Coordinate with project managers, supervisors and subcontract coordinators on industrial hygiene/health implications.
Conduct initial or baseline surveys of work areas or operations to identify and evaluate potential worker health risks.
Perform hazard assessments for chemical, physical, and biological agents and ergonomic stressors using recognized assessment methodologies and use of accredited industrial hygiene laboratories.
Recommend appropriate engineering, administrative, work practice, and/or personal protective control methods to limit concentrations to acceptable levels.
Perform or oversee initial or baseline industrial hygiene surveys of work areas or operations to identify, evaluate, and control potential worker health risks.
Conduct periodic IH surveys and/or sampling based on regulatory requirements and ensure that supervisors and sampled workers are informed of the results.
Prepare Industrial Hygiene Air Sampling (IHAS) reports as required.
Attend meetings to communicate IH program issues within area of expertise.
Document and maintain IH survey records, notifications of personal monitoring results, and equipment calibration
logs.
Recommend appropriate engineering, administrative, work practice, and/or PPE including respiratory protection to control methods to limit potential contact with hazardous chemicals, physical, and/or biological agents to acceptable levels.
JOB KNOWLEDGE:
Technical and field knowledge of assigned industrial hygiene area.
Knowledge and understanding of the elements and attributes of the Environmental Management System (EMS)
and of the Integrated Safety Management System (ISMS), as defined in the UCOR PPD-EH-1400, Integrated Safety Management System Description.
Working knowledge and practical application of industrial hygiene procedures, and governmental regulations, and practices.
Experience in industrial hygiene oversight/compliance activities.
Knowledge and understanding of governmental industrial hygiene standards, procedures, rules, and regulations.
Skills in verbal and written communication
Education:
Bachelors Degree in ES&H discipline or related
science/engineering area in an associated area applicable to the
program to be supported or demonstrated equivalent
combination of education, training, and experience.
Experience:
Minimum of 7 yrs. of experience. Relevant
professional certification preferred
Level Specific Responsibilities: Under limited supervision
Responsible for moderately complex industrial
hygiene technical work to achieve compliance with
ES&H standards along with federal and state
regulatory requirements.
Maintains current industrial hygiene knowledge of
specific government agency requirements.
Exhibits knowledge and applies the fundamental
concepts, practices and procedures of industrial
hygiene.
Independently determines and develops industrial
hygiene approaches to solutions.
Developes, implements and maintains industrial
hygiene systems and procedures.
Monitors and prevents hazards and diseases in the
work area.
Investigates accidents, injuries, and complaints
concerning industrial hygiene hazards in the workplace.
Recommends improvements in processes, design,
procedures and operating equipment to minimize
industrial hygiene hazards.
Develops and conducts employee industrial hygiene
training
Represents industrial hygiene discipline in emergency
preparedness drills and activities.
Provides industrial hygiene technical advice and
interpretation and provides industrial hygiene
interface with governmental regulators.
May act as a lead role for a team of industrial
hygienists and/or support personnel.
