Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for a Fire Protection Engineer opportunity for our customer in Los Alamos, New Mexico for the LANL Facility
What You Will Do
Engineering Services (ES) Division of LANL develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering capabilities to provide innovative engineering solutions that enable the Laboratory's scientific and national security mission. The Fire Protection Design Engineer position within ES Division is assigned to the Modification Group within ES-55 or the Engineering Project Delivery (ES-EPD) Group responsible for design services and the Conduct of Engineering (CoE) program implementation at LANL.
Work as part of a Design Team designing, upgrading, installing, and maintaining Fire Protection Systems Lab-wide
Collect data for studies and prepare technical reports
Collect the application, process, safety, and other requirements for the fire protection systems
Develop fire protection details, equipment data sheets, calculations, specifications, etc. that incorporate the applicable design requirements including nuclear safety requirements.
Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines and the customers during the development of the assessments, reports and design deliverables.
Support the associated safety analyses and hazards evaluations.
Implement the LANL Conduct of Engineering (COE) Program
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with developing hydraulic and electrical calculations for fire suppression and fire alarm systems.
Significant knowledge and experience with design, drawing, and specifications
Significant knowledge of engineering work planning and control methods
Minimum Three years engineering experience
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
The successful candidate will be expected to perform the following duties of this position, but are not necessarily limited to:
Knowledge of water based fire suppression systems.
Knowledge of building fire alarm systems
Knowledge/understanding of NFPA codes and standards specifically creating designs that meet the requirements of NPFA 13 and NFPA 72. (any specific ones?)
Demonstrated Proficiency using AutoSprink or SprinkCAD.
Ability to develop hydraulic and electrical calculations for suppression and fire alarm systems.
Proficiency with personal computers/software
Ability to communicate well, both written and verbally
Requirements for work in ES-55: Q (Position will be cleared to this level) and Human Reliability Program. Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.
Requirements for work in ES-EPD: Q (Position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a Federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter.
Education/Experience at lower level: BS Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited College or University
Demonstrated knowledge of DOE standards applicable to facility design, operation, and maintenance
Knowledge of Engineering principles and procedures, safety basis interaction, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices as applied to DOE non-reactor nuclear and high hazard facilities
Familiarity with LANL processes and procedures
