Civil Structural Design Engineer

Duties/Responsibilities

DUTIES

Provide design and construction oversight of structural engineering tasks to SRNS. Structural engineering tasks include: analysis of structural systems for both static and dynamic loads using manual computation and computer programs; design of concrete structures; design of steel, aluminum, stainless steel, timber and composite structures; foundation and anchorage design; structural analysis for impact, overpressure, and other accident conditions; preparation of CSI specifications; and review of vendor documents.

Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.

Work Hours:
A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules; including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and a 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B). Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has a 30-minute lunch.

Area Security Access:
The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. Afterward, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments. Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (“L” or “Q”) within the past two years are preferred.

Education
• BS Degree in Civil Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in either Civil or Structural Engineering
Experience/Skills
• Experience with 2D MicroStation CADD (Preferred)
• Previous SRS Design Engineering Experience (Preferred)
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience in design and analysis of nuclear or industrial facilities Yes
• Must demonstrate working knowledge of STAAD
• Must demonstrate working knowledge of National Codes and Standards such as IBC, AISC (ASD and LRFD), ACI, AWS, NFPA, and OSHA
• Candidate must have the ability to perform field walk-downs
