[Facilities Manager] Information Research Specialist 1

Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for an Information Research Specialist 1 opportunity for our customer in Los Alamos, NM to support the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Summary:

Come join one of the most dynamic and largest libraries in the Federal Government, the National Security Research Center (NSRC). The NSRC is Los Alamos National Laboratory's classified library, containing tens of millions of documents, films, books, and other archival material related to the development, testing and production of nuclear weapons, dating back to the first days of the Manhattan Project. The NSRC's collections contain a breadth of classified technical information related to physics, chemistry, engineering, material science, intelligence, and national security. The NSRC's holdings also include the hand-written notebooks of over a dozen Nobel Prize winning scientists who worked at the Lab. We are looking for an individual(s) to help us catalog, digitize, re-house our vast holdings and provide assistance on quality control and metadata development.

As an Information Research Specialist 1 you will catalog the NSRC’s physical collections. You will assist with populating metadata/ indexing information about the paper collections that will be used to develop a robust catalog, provide quality control for the cataloged materials. Assure proper storage and handling of classified information. Act as a classified matter custodian. Have exceptional attention to detail, proficient in the Microsoft Office suite, type 40 wpm, and able to lift 50lbs.

Qualifications

You will need developing or utilization of fundamental knowledge in operating at least one type of professional digitizing equipment for paper or other media. Experience in populating indices for small to moderate size collections. Developing or utilization of fundamental knowledge in following cataloging and metadata requirements for archival materials and with performing quality control reviews of cataloged material. You must also be a demonstrated self-starter with the ability to work in a team environment and strong attention to detail.

You will be required to have experience in customer-focused communication and relations. Experience in providing management with written and verbal communications on work status.

Education/Experience for Information Specialist 1:

Position typically requires a minimum of two years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

LANL Familiarity

An understanding of the weapons program within LANL, along with experience working with classified material in a classified environment.

Technical Knowledge

Having experience working in a major archival organization, such as the National Archives and Records Administration. Experience in Classified Matter Protection and Control; and Vault Access training. Experience in using LANL’s classified network systems, uploading, cataloging, and retrieving documents. Experience in assisting scientists/engineers with research requests.
