Mechanical Facilities Engineer (116748)

Talascend is currently seeking a Mechanical Facilities Engineer for a direct hire opportunity with our client located in Los Alamos, NM.


Primarily, mechanical design engineers will be modifying facility HVAC and other fluid systems. This includes developing new systems and designing modifications to existing systems in and around the facility. Each design can include demolition, installation, upgrades, and repairs. Within this role, engineers will become familiar with pressure safety, leak testing requirements, piping supports, and flow requirements. Mechanical engineers in this position will work alongside other junior and senior engineers (e.g., fire protection, structural, mechanical, and electrical) in team settings to complete collaborative full design solutions through mentoring, calculations, and leadership.


Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited college or university.
3+ years of practical work experience in nuclear facility.
Ability to obtain Q Clearance.
Vaccinated for COVID-19.
Knowledge of nuclear facility engineering in one or more of the following, nuclear criticality safety analysis, safety basis, system engineer, project engineer, or design engineer.
Knowledge of nuclear facility engineering work planning and control methods.
Expert knowledge of new and existing non-reactor facility mechanical engineering systems and calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of computer-aided engineering tools to solve operations-based engineering problems.
Demonstrated experience in installations including design details, equipment data sheets, equipment selection, installation instructions / specifications, post-modification testing and commissioning procedures, all to satisfy the applicable design requirements.
Advanced knowledge of engineering work, planning, construction, and control methods.
Advanced knowledge of engineering maintenance techniques and construction methodologies.
Advanced knowledge of industry, regulatory, or national codes and standards including IBC, IMC, IEBC, ASME, etc.
Advanced knowledge of Engineering principles and procedures, design guides, appropriate standards, and administrative practices.
Advance knowledge of project and process engineering practices.


Current registration as an EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) is highly desirable.
Demonstrated knowledge of DOE standards applicable to mechanical design implementation.
Advanced knowledge in welding designs.
