Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for a Technical Writer/Editor (Communications Specialist 2) opportunity for our customer in Los Alamos, NM to support the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Summary:

Responsible for a wide variety of internal and external communications activities, strategic and tactical, conceptual, and deliverable. Attains measurable results and improves continuously.

An experienced professional with a full understanding of specialized area plus working knowledge of related ?elds. Adept at solving a range of complex problems. Contributes to the development of organization's goals and objectives. Works under limited direction; receives general instructions on new assignments. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure objectives have been met. Demonstrates good judgment. Determines approach to solutions, plans and schedules activities to accomplish objectives. Must be receptive to coaching, education, and constructive criticism. Must learn to provide e?ective feedback to others, upward and downward.

Additional Job Information:

In this role, you will be working as a Communications Specialist with a heavy emphasis on technical writing and editing of existing material to ensure quality standards across all documentation. You will be embedded with a speci?c Laboratory organization to provide communications counsel and dedicated services to leaders, managers, and sta?.

Minimum Job Requirements:

Education:

This position requires a bachelor’s degree (preferably a master’s) in communications, English, or related ?eld and a minimum of ?ve years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The successful candidate will be extremely detail-oriented with initiative and the ability to quickly adapt to an intense and highly technical document environment. This job requires the ability to obtain a Q clearance, which typically requires US citizenship.

Technical Knowledge

A thorough knowledge of English grammar and punctuation, as well as extensive experience in technical editing and writing.
Ability to translate complex concepts and material into compelling and persuasive communications products.
Solid understanding of ?le structure and formatting. Knowledge of document structure and design for print and electronic publications.
Demonstrated expertise in providing guidance on technical writing skills to sta? including template development and user training.
Skilled at identifying and supporting process and tool improvement e?orts.
The ability to learn and comprehend new technical concepts and terminology.


Communication Skills

Demonstrated excellence in written and oral communication, problem-solving, and customer service and interpersonal skills.

Work Management and Customer Service

The ability to work on multiple, sometimes con?icting, deliverables and deadlines in a high-pressure work environment where priorities frequently shift.
Demonstrated ability to maintain professional and courteous interactions with team members, technical personnel both inside and outside the assigned organization, and a wide range of managers to ensure priorities are understood, issues are identi?ed and resolved, and deliverables are met.


Tools and Systems

Medium to advanced pro?ciency using Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat. A solid understanding of Word styles and templates and PowerPoint-speci?c formatting.

Desired Quali?cations:

Industry Knowledge

Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and measurement of training e?ectiveness
Basic knowledge of graphic design principles and graphic design and document layout software (e.g., Adobe products)
Experience producing publications for commercial (business or nonpro?t) customers

Area Security Access:

The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties.
