Position Overview:
Our client's Facilities and Operations (F&O) Division manages one of the world’s premier science facilities on a 400-acre site with 150+ structures for the Department of Energy. We are a service organization committed to the support and success of the Scientific Mission by providing safe and responsive engineering, construction, operations and maintenance of equipment, buildings and infrastructure
We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our Facilities and Operations’ Mechanical Engineering team. In this position, you will provide mechanical engineering design and review related to the facilities mechanical infrastructure systems. In addition, you will be involved in mechanical systems modernization by utilizing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML). Examples of projects include design & modification, construction support, and operation and maintenance of campus mechanical infrastructural systems including: HVAC (air handlers, fan filter units, boilers, etc.) , cooling towers & chillers, pumps, low conductivity & process cooling water, compressed air, sanitary sewer, storm drain, & domestic water systems. Tasks may include performing cooling and heating load, pressure drop and system volume calculations to size and select equipment; developing KPIs, operations and maintenance procedures, system modeling, configuration management and condition assessment; review and comment on MEP drawing and specification packages as a subject matter expert) for mechanical (wet and dry), plumbing/process piping, and fire protection as needed.
This position reports to the Mechanical and Civil Engineering Department Manager.
Your specific responsibilities include:
• Perform facilities engineering responsibilities involving the planning, design, construction, modification, operation, maintenance, and utilities. May serve as project leader in area of expertise for a major group of ongoing, technically complex projects with large budgets and requiring substantial coordination.
• Provide assessment, design, and technical recommendations; may include development and implementation.
• Develop and define scopes of work and estimates.
• Conduct risk assessments and develop contingency plans on less complex activities.
• Plan, research, formulate, and prepare project analyses in area of expertise.
• Prepare, review, and analyze projects' technical plans and specifications for sound design, conformance with design guidelines and other related criteria, and pertinent codes or standards.
• Manage design activity or projects in area of expertise, and/or manage contractor activities.
• Represent department on specific project teams and review committees and review committees.
• Other duties may also be assigned
To be successful in this position you will bring:
• Bachelor's degree in relevant engineering discipline. Minimum five years of directly related experience. Experience managing complex projects.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate strong and collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization.
• Proficiency with standard desktop applications for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations.
• Knowledge of scheduling, project management tools and resources.
• Knowledge and proficiency with engineering software related to assignment.
• Demonstrated project management skills.
