What You Will Do
The Engineering Services Division of Los Alamos NaƟonal Laboratory develops, maintains, and applies a diverse set of engineering
capabiliƟes to provide innovaƟve engineering soluƟons that enable the Laboratory's scienƟfic and naƟonal security mission. This
posiƟon is within the Engineering Services Division Office (ES‐DO). ES‐DO is responsible for implemenƟng the Conduct of
Engineering (COE) program at Los Alamos NaƟonal Laboratory. The posiƟons are in nuclear, accelerator or non‐nuclear faciliƟes
across 36 miles of the Laboratory. The program elements include processes, standards, training, and qualificaƟons that are
generally applicable throughout the life cycle of a facility. They exist to effecƟvely manage risks and saƟsfy customer requirements
in a safe, secure, cost effecƟve, and environmentally responsible manner.
As a Project Engineer assigned as to ES‐DO, you will act as the lead technical representaƟve for engineering acƟviƟes related to the
planning, design, execuƟon, and closeout of projects. You will be expected to lead and manage development of projects with an
integrated project team (IPT) that includes both customers, stakeholders, subject maƩer experts and others. You will manage
engineering design efforts for both internal and external engineering design teams; manage design reviews, and assure comments
are implemented by facilitaƟng the resoluƟon of comments, and ensure delivery of the design product. For all design efforts, this
includes verificaƟon of complaint design delivery at each stage (i.e. 30/60/90/100 %).
For external design execuƟon, this may require management of the contract; coordinaƟon of design deliverables; supporƟng
design progress through team meeƟngs; obtaining and aiding in resolving LANL subject maƩer expert comments.
For internally produced design, this may include management of design schedule, determining design team staffing needs,
managing costs, quality checks, and overall delivery.
Develop cost esƟmates with the Engineering Services technical team for project support.
Manage technical requirements for construcƟon, including coordinaƟng designer‐constructor interface, design changes,
submiƩal reviews, inspecƟon documentaƟon, and request for informaƟon (RFI), commissioning, and cerƟficate of occupancy
Work with the integrated project team to assure substanƟal compleƟon, punch‐list, as built and turnover process is correctly
implemented for project closeout; and work with document management representaƟves to ensure all project
documentaƟon is complete and stored in the appropriate repositories.
Adhere to and enforce the policies, programs, procedures, and pracƟces with the requirements of the LANL Conduct of
Plan, forecast, and idenƟfy necessary engineering resources to support project workload requirements; reviewing project
engineering progress against approved schedules and budgets; evaluaƟng changes; and taking correcƟve acƟon when
Work with the LANL Authority Having JurisdicƟon (AHJ) representaƟves such as building official, fire marshal, electrical safety
officer, etc. for idenƟficaƟon of requirements, permiƫng, and issues resoluƟon.
Resolve field‐iniƟated quesƟons on engineering, visits jobsite, aide in the resoluƟon of construcƟon related technical issue;
resolve a wide range of design and constructability issues in creaƟve ways that adhere to codes and standards; and provide
