GEM Technologies, Inc. (GEM) is seeking a Quality Control Inspector to join our team in Amarillo, TX. The ideal candidate has a solid inspection and welding background with ample experience of mechanical systems, a questioning attitude, and proficiency with standard testing tools, calipers, depth gauge, and PI Tapes.
This position is full-time in Amarillo, TX.
Receive, visually inspect, and test mechanical assemblies and systems, such as piping, valves, and fasteners for defects using various M&TE to ensure compliance with receipt specifications.
Perform hydro testing of piping assemblies using written test procedures and M&TE including completion of inspection & test documentation.
Read and interpret documents, such as commercial grade test & inspection requirements, drawings, and purchase orders to determine inspection and test procedures.
Analyze, interpret, and perform inspections, test plans, sampling and data collection.
Coordinate activities with customer personnel for hold and witness points.
Prepare and complete required inspection reports.
Report nonconforming activities and assist in their closeout inspection and documentation.
Conduct various non-destructive tests and examinations (including MT, PT, VT).
Properly utilize familiarity with all applicable codes, standards, and other documents that control the NDT method being utilized.
Perform examinations independently and troubleshoot equipment, as needed.
Review and understand order requirements, inspection methods, and acceptance criteria.
Act as a liaison between the company and the customer inspector as required.
Interpret fabrication drawings and welding procedure specification.
High School Diploma and 3+ years of construction quality assurance/quality control field experience implementing and documenting the results of oversight, surveillances, inspections, or tests that are required to be performed in accordance with documented procedures, acceptable standards, and/or industry practices.
Active VT, PT, MT and UT Certifications are highly desired.
American Welding Society (AWS) CWI Certificate is desired, but not required.
Must have a basic knowledge of mechanical systems and standard testing tools, calipers, depth gauge, and PI Tapes.
Prior experience in welding and inspection of metallic and HDPE piping to ASNT and ASME standards including electro-fusion welding is preferred.
3 years of experience working as a Level II PT and VT.
Must be familiar with all applicable codes, standards, and other documents that control the NDT method being utilized.
Must be able to read and interpret governing codes.
Basic math skills and basic computer skills such as Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook are required.
Must have good oral and written communication and decision-making skills.
Should be detail- and customer-oriented with an excellent work ethic.
Must be team-oriented and professionally minded.
Experience implementing NQA-1 quality requirements in a field construction quality role is a plus, but not required.
Ability to obtain and maintain a government-issued security clearance, if necessary.
Due to the nature of the work, a U.S. Citizenship is required.
