Summary
Responsible for assigned activities within an engineering discipline in support of facility design, operation and maintenance. Applies broad and diversified knowledge of engineering principles and practices in the preparation of complex engineering analyses. Performs all aspects of work in engineering operations within discipline. Performs conventional structural design and analysis. Provides system integration within and across disciplines. Provides construction and project support. May provide direction to technicians. Able to work independently and as part of a team. Utilizes engineering technology to accomplish work. Continuously improves work processes to meet customer needs.

This position may be subject to DOE Order 426.2, Personnel Selection, Training, and Qualification Requirements for DOE Nuclear Facilities. This DOE Order establishes entry-level requirements to ensure employees in the positions can successfully perform the requirements of the job.

The Systems Engineer is responsible for ensuring that the design solution fully meets its requirements and design intent. Systems engineers help develop and manage requirements, requirements traceability reports, V&V plans, qualification plans, and test and acceptance documentation. Systems Engineers apply system thinking to solve problems, integrate, and maximize the performance of complex projects throughout their life cycles, from conceptual design to closeout.

Systems Engineers in the Plutonium Infrastructure Engineering Division are working on cutting edge projects for new technologies and facilities. The average day involves collaborating with project managers, a multidisciplinary team of engineers, quality experts, and subject matter experts to support the project’s execution. The System Engineer will require a thorough understanding of systems engineering principles and have the aptitude to apply these principles in the execution of the job.

Education
Position requires a bachelor’s degree or higher in an accredited engineering or related science program with 3 years of expereince; Specialized experience, training, or education in systems engineering principles, requirements management, engineering codes, CAD, or systems modeling language is desired.
