Edgewater is seeking qualified candidates for a Fire Protection Engineer 1, 2, & 3 opportunities for our customer in Los Alamos, NM to support the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Work Location: Remote and Hybrid options available; dependent on position and discretion of management
Organization/Group: ES-IPD (7R050C)
Clearance: No clearance requirements

Required Certification: NICET in one or more disciplines of fire protection

Job Requirements:

Demonstrated expert design experience in fire protection systems for commercial and / or industrial facilities.
Demonstrated expert application of building codes and standards to facilities designs.
Demonstrated ability to apply engineering judgement to facility and operations-based engineering challenges.
Demonstrated advanced level experience working with AHJ requirements.
Demonstrated expert experience leading a design effort.
Demonstrated expert ability in preparing calculations, applications of engineering methods, and application of technology aided engineering tools to facility and operations-based engineering challenges.
Broad knowledge of industry, regulatory, or Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE/NNSA) complex codes, standards, and criteria pertinent to the particular engineering discipline.
Demonstrated ability in coaching, and mentoring junior personnel.
Demonstrated ability to communicate well, both written and verbally.
Education and Experience:

Fire Protection Engineer 1: Bachelors with 1-2 years’ experience
Fire Protection Engineer 2: Bachelors with 2-5 years’ experience
Fire Protection Engineer 3: Bachelors with3-8 years’ experience

Summary

Assists in coordinating fire protection engineering elements of the Laboratory fire protection program, and in the operation of fire protection surveillance and alarm systems operations in compliance with current codes and standards, DOE orders, and best industry practice. Specific duties may include performing fire protection engineering duties under the supervision of the fire protection group leader and/or senior fire protection staff, conducting facility surveillance assessment, assisting with site-wide fire alarm operations, or reviewing authorization basis documents relating to fire protection. Assists in researching information for fire protection, and code compliance related activities.

NOTE: This function represents a fire protection engineer and is primarily concerned with engineering aspects related to fire protection, life safety, property loss prevention, and activities relating to the design, review and installation of fire alarm and fire suppression systems. For professional functions related to the development, implementation, and monitoring and/or maintenance of fire protection programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Leads planning and coordination of one or more programs regarding fire protection engineering, loss prevention, facility and programmatic surveillance, and fire alarm system operations programs to comply with current codes and standards, DOE Orders, federal regulations, and best industry practices. Specific duties may include establishing and monitoring fire protection engineering and loss prevention programs, surveillance programs, and enhanced fire alarm system operations programs. Works with all levels of Laboratory management and represents the Laboratory to external agencies and community organizations. Reviews and recommends actions on fire protection and loss prevention related issues.”
