Provide technical support to Spent Fuel Project (SFP) Design Authority Engineering. Primary responsibilities include conducting independent technical reviews of nuclear technical work documents in support of Design Authority work, specifically for Accelerated Basin Deinventory (ABD). In addition, support of the SFP Fuel Shipping and Receiving Program will also be a responsibility. These reviews and support are identified based upon organization need throughout the year. Additional responsibilities include advising and assisting junior and mid-level professionals design authority staff, in addition to SFP Engineering Management while advocating opportunities for their personal growth, providing subject matter expertise and advice in multi-functional technical teams, participating in the performance of technical design reviews of projects and programmatic documentation while supporting both the review process and the closeout of reviews, making recommendations and assisting the engineering staff in setting objectives while ensuring technical excellence and cost effectiveness, sharing technical knowledge and experience with the new staff to assist in the acceleration of personnel learning and qualifications, providing recommendations on methods to improve and accelerate the technical onboarding of the newer staff.
Work Hours: Up to a 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules including 5/8s (8 hour/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week AA and four days on week BB. Work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has 30-minute lunch. Overtime will be expected at times to meet deliverables and will be utilized at the discretion of the Design Authority Manager
Area Security Access:
A DOE security clearance is not initially required; however, candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q clearance. Preference will be given to candidates who have held a L or Q security clearance in the past two years.
PhD in applicable science or engineering discipline and 10 years relevant work experience, MS degree and 12 years relevant work experience, OR BS degree and 15 years relevant work experience required.
Candidates with previous client experience are preferred.
Candidates with Spent Fuel Project fuel shipping and receipt and Accelerated Basin Deinventory are preferred
Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience of various casks used to ship Spent Fuel to and from SRS SFP.
Candidates who have held a “L” or “Q” security clearance in the past two years are preferred
Demonstrated twenty-five (25) years of experience in facility engineering support with a minimum of twenty (20) years of experience in design authority engineering experience.
Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience with Conduct of Engineering related procedures and requirements in the DOE/NNSA environment
Demonstrated working with multi-functional engineering organizations
Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience with DOE Orders and Regulations relative to the technical support required of DOE facilities
Demonstrated strong mentoring/coaching capabilities, mentoring / coaching capabilities, strong verbal and written communication skills, excellent planning and organizing skills and working in a team environment
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance
Demonstrated extensive knowledge and experience Working knowledge of DOE Spent Fuel shipping and storage requirements
