This position is full-time and will serve the Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, TN.

Responsibilities:

As a Fire Protection Design Engineer (FPDE), the candidate will be responsible for developing high quality detailed fire protection design packages, providing engineering procurement and field technical support to implement those designs, and providing expertise for troubleshooting and technical assessments of plant systems. Design involves the preparation of conceptual engineering deliverables such as cost-estimating bills of material and man-hour estimates, statements of work, design criteria, and title II engineering deliverables including preparation of calculations and analyses, construction specifications & drawings, equipment specifications, and test plans. Candidate must effectively and cooperatively work as a team member of an integrated project team, or as a technical lead for a multi-discipline task and will routinely provide input to system engineers and other plant customers. Design engineer will routinely perform walkdowns in the existing plant facilities in order to generate design documents and provide field support to craft personnel.

Implements programs and procedures to ensure employee and facility safety is in accordance with all OSHA, NFPA and Life Safety Code requirements. Maintains current knowledge of building and fire protection codes and regulations to assure compliance. The candidate will be responsible to plan and self-perform on a project/problem which includes, but is not limited to, design timelines, functions and requirements, design basis and criteria, design schedule and tracking, design review, inter-discipline design coordination, design approval, design change control, and field verification of compliance to design. Utilization of computer fire modeling e.g., CFAST, DETACT-QS, and FDS, as well as hydraulic calculation software (e.g., HASS). Ability to communicate clearly and effectively through the oral and written word including formal presentation skills.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Engineering from an Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program in the United States or designated equivalents from Canada or Mexico, the Washington Accord, or the list of substantially equivalent as documented by ABET.
A minimum of five years of relevant experience.
Successful drug screening.
Must be US citizen.
Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
