Principle Design Specialist (667183) (AIKEN, SC)

Contract duration - (1 Year) 2600 hours S/T and 580 hours O/T

Duties/Responsibilities

This position supports the Plutonium Pit Production Weapon Quality Program at SRS in an Architectural Engineering role.

Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:

analysis of existing facilities and space planning.
development of design criteria, facility conceptual design, and construction drawings.
coordination with structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.
materials research and specification development.
building code research, analysis, and compliance.
Familiarity with cost estimating and quantity takeoffs. Has mastered technical field, is recognized as internal expert, has depth of knowledge to tackle any problem in field. Contributes to advancing knowledge.
Familiar with passive fire protection design including fire barriers and penetration seals; preparation of CSI specifications; reviewing vendor documents, construction oversight and project closeout.
Education:

PhD in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5 years relevant work experience, MS degree and 8 years relevant work experience, or BS degree and 10 years relevant work experience required. (Alternate degrees may be considered when combined with significant relevant experience.)
Experience/Skills:

A minimum of five (5) years of experience with National Codes and Standards such as AISC, AWS, NFPAs, OSHA, CFR. Competent in IBC, NFPA Life Safety Code 101, and ADA/ABA.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience with Industrial experience in facility layout design for industrial type equipment and manufacturing.
Knowledge to prepare Construction Specification Institute (CSI) formatted specifications.
Experience with Fire Protection Design Skills - Fire Barrier/Penetration Seals.
Facility security architectural experience.
Experience with passive fire protection design including fire barriers and penetration seals; preparation of CSI specifications; reviewing vendor documents, construction oversight and project closeout.
Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance.
Work Hours:

A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules; including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and a 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B). The work week excludes SRNS holidays. Each workday has a 30-minute unpaid lunch.

Area Security Access:
The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE Q security clearance. An active DOE clearance is not initially required to perform assigned duties. After the award, the selected candidate will be notified when to apply for a clearance based on specific work assignments. Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two years are preferred.
