Principal Engineer/Design

Savannah River Site: Aiken, SC
Due: 06/06/2023
Contract duration – 3 years (6000 hours of S/T and 24—O/T per year)

US Citizenship required.

Duties/Responsibilities
Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS. Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.

Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS.

Education:
BS Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
Experience/Skills:
• Demonstrated previous client Design Engineering experience and working knowledge of client design processes and procedures (preferred)
• Possessed an active DOE clearance (“L” or “Q”) within the past two years (preferred)
• Demonstrated a minimum of 15 years design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry.
• Demonstrated a minimum of 5 years of experience working at one or more DOE facilities.
• Demonstrated a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a nuclear industry/facility.
• Demonstrated experience creating and revising documentation in one or more of the following areas: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews.
• Ability to perform weekly field walk-downs of the job site for engineering work being performed. These walk-downs may involve constructions sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances over a half mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, dressing out in protective clothing, and environments where a respirator is required.
• Candidate must provide date they are available to start work at client.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE “Q” security clearance.
Work Hours: A 40-hour work week is scheduled. SRNS utilizes various work schedules; including 5/8s (8 hours/day; five days per week), 4/10s (10 hours/day; four days per week), and 9/80s (9 hours/day, five days on week A and 4 days on week B). Work week excludes SRNS holidays. SRNS Management will determine best schedule depending on work needs. Each workday has an unpaid 30-minute lunch break. Extended work hours and workdays are to be expected with this position.
