Business Justification The Senior Project Manager will be assigned to the Clinch River Nuclear Small Modular Reactor project and will report to the Principal Project Manager. The Senior Project Manager serves in a leadership role in managing assigned projects to ensure safety, environmental, quality, budget, and schedule goals are met. The Senior Project Manager interfaces with project stakeholders by applying project management professional principles, practices, and techniques to ensure project goals are achieved. The Senior Project Manager is a member of the Joint Project Team (JPT) and assists in controlling project scope, schedule, cost, and performance risks to ensure project is completed within a certain set of restraints (e.g., time, budget, people, quality, materials) and a high level of quality. Successful project outcomes are achieved through collaboration, negotiation, and influencing of assigned project teams, as well as internal and external stakeholders, over whom the Senior Project Manager may have no formal authority.
Education – Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business management, or technical field, or equivalent education, training and/or related work experience. Master’s degree is preferred but not required.
Certification/License, etc. — Project Management Institute (PMI) certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP) or within one year of appointment to the position. Exceptions or extensions to this requirement are governed by SPP-34.018. Demonstrated desire to excel in professional field of study as demonstrated by certification/license in professional field of study preferred but not required, e.g., PE, CPA, CFA, etc.
Experience – Ten years utility project manager experience, or equivalent functional area work experience including three years of increased responsibilities leading project teams and project management experience. Requires specialized in-depth knowledge of project management techniques, demonstrated experience in resolving in-depth problems, and practical experience in project planning, scoping and cost estimating. Experience in new nuclear power plant design, construction, and/or licensing is desirable. Experience with greenfield construction planning and implementation is highly desirable.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities — Project Management qualifications are governed by TVA-SPP-34.018, project manager training and development. SPP 34.018 covers leadership competencies, such as communication skills, business acumen, problem solving, and other related competencies required for project management professionals. Personnel assigned to manage projects must have the skills, ability, and experience commensurate with the size and complexity of the project.
