Edgewater Technical Associates is seeking multiple qualified candidates with facility operations background for Chemical Engineer positions located at the Savannah River Site.

Work Location: Aiken, SC

Chemical Engineer

Job Description:
• A facility engineer with a chemical engineer background to perform walkdowns of operating facility, reviews of current design against proposed facility mods, ensuring design changes do not impact safety basis, and provide engineering oversight of performance of both maintenance and facility mod work activities in the field.

Job Duties:
• Provide support to the facility engineering staff as a field / system engineer for facility operations.
• Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines (e.g., Project Engineer, Process Engineer Design Authority, etc.), maintenance, and operations and the DOE customer rep to support system operations.
• Design and upgrade facility systems and components.
• Review and approve system design changes / modifications.
• Oversight of assigned system operations, testing, and maintenance.
• Review changes to the plant configuration (i.e., modifications, design change notices) to determine impact to design of the facility, safety basis assumptions or analysis, facility operations, and facility operating procedures.
• Ensuring operation of assigned system is within established operating limits and safety analysis.
• Implement and work to the authorization basis documents in a nuclear facility.
• Perform or assist with hazard analysis of assigned system.
• Adhere to and implement client’s Conduct of Engineering (COE) Program.
• Perform Engineering Evaluations of equipment and systems for performance, safety, and deficiencies.
• Perform calculations and develop engineering calculation reports.
• Provide system health reports, design studies, (e.g., root cause analysis, new design development), identify life-cycle cost reductions, and assist with developing integrated technical positions and recommendations for customer approval.
• Provide support to resolve any corrective actions or deficiency identified in the corrective action tracking system related to engineering assignments.
• Develop design details, design or analysis calculations, specifications, safety documentation, etc. that incorporate the applicable design and national code requirements, including nuclear safety requirements, as applicable.
• Interface and coordinate with other engineering disciplines (e.g., Project Engineer, Process Engineer, Design Authority, etc.), maintenance, and operations and the customer to support system operations.

Education:
• A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree of Chemical Engineering or related engineering degree.

Experience:
• A minimum of three (3) to twenty (20) years’ experience related to their engineering discipline (chemical) and/or field/system engineering.
• Working knowledge of National Codes and Standards such as International Building Code (IBC), American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC) (ASD and LRFD), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), American Water Works Association (AWWA), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Candidate must have the ability to walk down systems in the field.

Preferred Job Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of NQA-1 requirements applicable to specifications, design, and execution of related Engineering discipline (e.g., chemical) requirements.
• Design Authority
• Previous SRS or another DOE site experience
• Nuclear, chemical or wastewater facility experience
• Active membership with a nationally recognized technical society
• Advanced knowledge of discipline codes and standards
• Develop control-level schedules and draft progress reporting
• Working knowledge of 10 CFR 830

Other Requirements:
• Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
