POSITION DESCRIPTION
The main duties include, but are not limited to:
Serving as the Subject Matter Expert for multiple safety programs and collaborating with other professionals to ensure sound and effective program implementation.
Providing Safety technical guidance to CH-TRU operations or environmental remediation (ER) for problems and issues related to Safety.
Conducting investigations of the site to determine the extent of contamination, defining the alternatives that can be employed to complete the cleanup and ensuring that the work will be in accordance with all federal and state regulatory requirements and within N3B's Industrial Hygiene & Safety policies.
Overseeing and developing Safety processes necessary for ensuring compliance with technical and regulatory requirements to assist in the development of TRU waste isolation and/or removal strategies.
Appling the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring CHTRU or Environmental Remediation mission success.
Monitoring and reviewing the Industrial Hygiene & Safety performance of subcontractors in the areas of work planning, work execution, installation, inspections, material control, and other areas of their work to confirm that they are performing in accordance with the provisions of the subcontract (Exhibit F process)
Perform inspections and other assignments as directed by management.
Perform Job-Hazard Analysis as directed by management.
Attend pre-job briefings and facilitate a team approach towards resolution of any safety issues.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Level 2
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years of related experience.
Level 3
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years of related experience.
Level 4
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 9 years of related experience.
Level 5
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 14 years of related experience.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Intermediate to advance knowledge, and demonstrated application, of Department of Energy (DOE) and regulatory requirements related to industrial safety.
Intermediate to advance knowledge of and experience implementing industrial hygiene/safety-related risk assessments and corrective actions.
Intermediate to advance knowledge of techniques/instrumentation, sample analysis, and selection/implementation of controls.
Intermediate to advance skill in the preparation and communication of industrial safety technical information to technical and non-technical personnel.
Intermediate to advance knowledge and ability to apply the hierarchy of controls to eliminate or mitigate hazards while ensuring mission success.
Intermediate to advance experience and skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions to industrial safety related problems.
Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work effectively within a team environment and provide excellent customer service.
Intermediate to advance knowledge and application of integrated safety management, integrated work management, and other industrial hygiene and safety procedures.
Intermediate to advance knowledge and ability to evaluate hazard controls and exposure data in order to make recommendations and improvements.
Intermediate knowledge and ability to develop, review, and evaluate site-specific safety/health programs and requirements.
Intermediate to advance experience and skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions and recommending solutions to problems affecting industrial hygiene and safety.
Intermediate to advance ability to represent the organization on various internal or external boards and committees.
Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
Satisfactory results of a pre-employment screening, which includes a background check and drug screening.
Ability to fulfill and promote L&A core values.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous experience on DOE sites and programs.
LOCATION
Los Alamos, New Mexico
This position requires 95%+ on-site work (minimal telework) and is contingent on the ability to gain site access to Los Alamos National Laboratory.
