Electrical Engineer/NEC Electrical Inspector-WIPP

UDR is seeking qualified candidates for an Electrical Engineer/NEC Electrical Inspector opportunity in Carlsbad, NM at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP).

Work Location: On-Site at WIPP
Per diem is available for those who qualify.


DUTIES

The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) is the nation’s only permanent nuclear waste repository for defense-generated transuranic (TRU) waste generated from Department of Energy (DOE) sites across the country. Waste is permanently isolated over 2,000 feet underground in deep salt beds.

Duties:
Will be responsible for inspecting electrical installations, systems, and equipment to ensure compliance with local, state, and national electrical codes and standards, such as NFPA 70, National Electrical Code.
Interface with Field Engineers for inspection priorities and provide installation guidance to ensure adherence to code requirements.
Review design documents for constructability.
Monitor equipment installation reviews specifications, instruction manuals and technical data.
Other electrical engineering duties, as required.

Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred.
A Professional Engineer license is an acceptable alternative to a bachelor’s degree.
Related experience may substitute for education.
Certified Electrical Inspector certification is a plus.
Experience as an NEC Electrical Inspector is required.
Experience with NFPA 70, National Electric Code (NEC) is required.
Familiarity with NFPA70E, Standard for Electrical Safety in the Workplace is a plus.
Knowledge and experience of DOE, DOD and/or commercial nuclear construction projects is desired.
Must be physically able to conduct field inspections and participate in project walk downs that may require the following activities: extensive walking in and around a construction site, climbing ladders, climbing scaffolding, using fall protection and other personal protective equipment (PPE), walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and maneuvering around very small and/or confined spaces.
