Senior Software Engineer

SUMMARY:
Keeps assigned applications operational by testing product upgrades, providing customer support, and problem-solving customer issues. Plans for information systems and services from a perspective of application design, development, installation, or database administration by SRNS IT processes and procedures. Provides tactical design, engineering, technical specifications, project coordination, and configuration management for moderately complex IT solutions. Assists more senior technical personnel in performing related activities and moderately complex tasks.
Work closely with the Soſtware Professional Lead and the customer/owner to understand and apply your knowledge of the functional and system requirements
Maintain technical expertise in assigned emphasis areas and demonstrate flexibility in multiple disciplines
Proactively communicate and coordinate with others across IT to support assigned areas. Perform other tasks associated with application development lifecycle, commercial off shelf software support, and database administration:
Perform root cause analysis and outline corrective action for complex problems
Ensure continued service of customer applications through prompt correction of system or program
Malfunctions and applying a sense of urgency, commitment, and focus on the right priorities
Master software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, change management, vulnerability scanning, and debuggers in the software development process
Guide personnel to ensure efficient utilization of resources and adherence to technical standards lead the analysis and development of requirements, design specs, and final products by reviewing systems documentation, plans, and schedules produced by less experienced personnel.
Train less experienced personnel in developing requirements, speciation, technical products, and existing business processes.
Lead moderately sized initiatives and projects by establishing tasks, priorities, milestones, cost estimates, and schedules.
Conduct feasibility studies of automaton opportunities and establish cost benefit parameters.
Develop and execute test plans to ensure the software is correct.
Participate in validation and efficiency reviews of completed program code
Review policies and procedures for technical accuracy
Participate in cross-functional IT teams
Evaluate new requests, offer suggestions to improve, provide comments, and estimate the level of effort for moderately complex IT solutions
Provide support for the software infrastructure associated with the system environments.
Maintaining cyber posture and compliance is required to maintain federal authority to operate.
Perform installations and upgrades to software and databases to maintain vendor support and strategic agility.
Plan for future requirements of database systems, to include disaster recovery needs and storage requirements
Protect operations by keeping information confidential.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Experience:
Bachelor's degree in an IT-related discipline with 5 years proven performance in related assignments; or Non-related Bachelor degree with 7 years of proven performance in the related assignment(s); or Associate Degree in IT-related discipline with 7 years proven performance in the related assignment(s); or Non-related Associate Degree with 9 years proven performance in the related assignment(s). Instead of a degree, a high school diploma with typically at least 11 years of equivalent knowledge and experience is acceptable.
Knowledge of the academic and practical aspects of Software Engineering is required, as is ongoing technical development in Software Engineering.
Demonstrates an applied understanding of computer languages, software development fundamentals/methodology, and database infrastructure
Demonstrates programming skills, including analyzing information, software design, requirements, testing, documentation, problem-solving, debugging, and software development fundamentals/methodology.
Demonstrates ability to utilize software engineering tools such as configuration management systems, change management, scanning, and debuggers in software development.
The candidate must demonstrate 15 or more years of experience in software engineering-related positions, including at least 10 years of experience on DOE projects.
Prior SRS experience and working knowledge of SRNS processes and procedures (preferred)
Candidates who have possessed an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years (preferred)
