MUST be local to the Houston area - no per diem is offered.

MUST have valid TWIC card.

MUST have 5+ years Corrosion Engineer experience on fixed equipment in refinery or chemical plant setting.

This position will work with a team of dedicated, highly-trained professionals. The Fixed Equipment Corrosion Engineer interacts with other technical groups on site (process engineering, maintenance, and capital project groups), corporate technical networks and peers, and vendors/suppliers as needed to resolve problems and improve plant reliability and performance.


Review welding process selection, procedure qualifications, technician qualifications, codes and standards, filler metal selection, weld joint details and symbology, welding joint design, proper grounding techniques.

Assess damage mechanisms in furnaces, boilers, heaters, flares, burners, refractory, insulation, high temperature materials, tanks, vessels and piping. Serves as a subject matter expert on common refinery damage mechanisms like Sulfidation, High Temperature Hydrogen Attack (HTHA), Creep Rupture, Ammonium Bisulfide corrosion, etc.

Serves as a subject matter expert with Risk Based Inspection program, supporting RBI specialists in identifying and implementing improvements within the RBI program/database.

Works closely with Fixed Equipment Reliability Engineer to assess Integrity Operating Windows for stationary equipment.

Works closely with the Unit Inspectors on the selection and placement of Corrosion Monitoring Locations (CMLs).

Assess cathodic protection systems.

Participate in the development of corrosion control manuals.

Support water treatment programs.

Serves as subject matter expert on basic material hierarchy and selection, coating selection, surface preparation, and AWS and NACE guidelines.

Provide technical support to Operations, Maintenance, Capital Projects, and Turnarounds.

Lead or participate in incident investigations and root cause failure analysis.

Recommend NDE technologies and applicability / limitations and perform basic NDE interpretation.

Provide technical input for QA/QC.

Develop and maintain specific procedures, programs, and methods to ensure unit needs are met and maintained.

Evaluate deferral requests for inspections and repairs.

Perform fitness for service calculations on damaged equipment. Requirements: An engineering degree is required.

Minimum of 5 years of relevant work experience (corrosion / metallurgy) in a refinery.

Good working knowledge of damage mechanisms leading to equipment failure.

Good knowledge of stationary equipment fabrication standards (ASME), inspection codes (API, NBIC), and welding codes and certifications (AWS, CWI).

Strong interpersonal leadership skills are critical due to the requirement for effective communication of complex issues across the organization as well as for mentoring and consensus building.

Must have strong commitment to safety.
