Title: Process Engineer

Position Type: Direct Hire

Location: Lake Charles, LA

Reports to: VP of Engineering

Status: Exempt

Job Summary: 

PIC Group has an excellent opportunity for a Process Engineer for a new chlorine chemical production facility located in Lake Charles, LA.  The Process Engineer will report to the VP of Engineering and is responsible for promoting process and facility improvements, recommending solutions for process upsets, safety, and environmental goals. The Process Engineer is also responsible for capital projects to take advantage of identified opportunities, including economic analysis, cost justification, initial process design, and execution of projects to improve the operability and profitability of the plant. The Process Engineer will play a vital role in assuring production and products are up to the required standards for the newly commissioned plant.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Process Engineer will be required to address the following areas of a chlorine production facility.

Responsible for testing, evaluation, and approval, product output meets customer expectations.
All process related troubleshooting and technical problem solving
Leads development, and implementation of new processes equipment, and the configurations to support growth objectives.
Provides technical knowledge in analyzing process data to identify root causes of manufacturing inefficiencies, deliver troubleshooting analyzes, and implement appropriate countermeasures to improve quality, performance, productivity, and sustainability solutions.
Develop best practices, routines, and innovative solutions to improve production rates and quality of output.
Work with internal and external suppliers of materials, equipment, and services to execute projects, resolve problems and improve processes.
Ensure a safe working environment and help assess and minimize risks to the company in all areas such as health, safety, environment, quality, ethics, and customer service.
Identify required preventative maintenance items (PMs) to ensure optimum process reliability is achieved the production object.
Prepare reports with improvement recommendations by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data.
Maintain documentation (e.g., work instructions) and records required for changes or improvements, such as management of change and pre-production process.
Develop System Operating Procedures (SOP) and work instructions for the processes, as needed, to support safe and reliable manufacturing.
Participate Hazard Reviews process.
Review equipment and subsystem design and operation documentation.
Review maintenance repairs and requirements to assure compliance with process and procedure.
Reports to VP of Engineering.

Job Requirements:

Working knowledge with chemical processes related to the production of chlorine products required
Ability to address challenges while working in an operating plant work environment.
Effective leadership and communication skills both verbally and in writing with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company.
Proficient in Microsoft Office – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and ability to work with data to generate periodic reports as needed.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
High level of initiative, innovation, critical thinking, and analytical problem-solving skills.
Ability to work cross-functionally within the organization.
Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage deadlines accordingly.
Exceptional attention to detail and high level of accuracy & organization.
Strong Knowledge of process technology and the technical principles related to chemical, oil & gas, pulp & paper, and like plants.
Capable to read, interpret & prepare applicable technical information, including drawings, schematics, P&IDs, procedures, manuals, codes, and specifications.
Experience with flow metering, instrumentation, valves, pumps, sampling systems, analyzers, flow computers, E&I wiring, and control panels.

Physical Requirements:

Physical demands—the physical demands of the job, including bending, climbing, sitting, lifting, and driving.
Work environment: chemical production site in Louisiana with varied moderate to high temperature, high noise level, working inside and outside, with and around caustic chemicals.

Education / Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering or related degree
7+ years of plant process work experience in chemical continuous manufacturing
Process control experience is a plus (Delta V)
Experience in lean manufacturing practices, such as six sigma (green belt or equivalent preferred).
