Title: Energy Engineer

Position Type: Direct Hire 

Location: Remote

Reports to: Engineering Manager 

Status: Exempt 
 
Job Summary:   

PIC Group has an excellent opportunity for an Energy Engineer to support a well-established EPC company based in Arlington, VA.  The Energy Engineer will report to the Engineering Manager and play a vital role in supporting a wide range of energy related projects. Must have Energy Conversion Management (ECM) experience. The Energy Engineer will work remotely from their home office with intermittent travel to the corporate office and customer job site.   Pay is up to $140K DOE (Depending On Experience).  Excellent benefits, yearly bonus, 5% 401K match, and upward mobility.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Lead facility audits to identify Energy Conversion Management
•    Collect utility, facility, operations, and other data needed to identify Energy Conversion Management
•    Recommend Energy Conversion Management, and prepare energy analyses of facilities and/or systems
•    Recommend energy-efficient design solutions and technology upgrades that are supported by accurate descriptions, measured, and logged energy data, savings calculations, and cost estimates
•    Analyze blueprints to assess mechanical, electrical, and control systems and determine facility operational characteristics
•    Conduct detailed mechanical and control system energy improvement analyses and complete calculations using custom tools, spreadsheets and/or energy-modeling software
•    Develop Measurement & Verification plans and protocols, commissioning protocols, and post-implementation Operations & Maintenance protocols 
•    Coordinate the integration of design engineering, project construction, start-up/turnover, and subsequent Operations & Maintenance procedures for energy projects
•    Assist with project development (e.g., construction planning, price, schedule, environmental, warranties, performance guarantees, risk mitigation plans)
•    Oversee the engineering analyses and technical support work of project subcontractors

Job Requirements:

•    A passion in the areas of energy efficiency, alternative energy, and sustainability
•    Travel (for site audits and walks) 20% of time
•    A passion in the areas of energy efficiency, alternative energy, and sustainability
•    Ability to provide technical leadership and project management to guide a team of energy engineers to identify, develop and implement integrated energy efficiency programs
•    Proficient ability to apply the concepts of thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics
•    Ability to individually develop custom energy improvement calculation tools is a plus
•    Measurement and verification skills, including installation of instrumentation for short-term data logging of power and environmental parameters
•    Engineering, analytical, and technical writing skills, including spreadsheet analyses
•    Demonstrated ability to perform at a high level on multi-disciplinary teams
•    Excellent written and oral communication skills
•    A general knowledge of the financial, technical, and political aspects driving the energy industries

Physical Requirements:

•    Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time and perform repetitive tasks such as computer work daily.  
•    Ability to walk the job site and ascend / descend both exterior and interior ladders / stairs.
 
Education / Experience: 

•    Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent discipline (mechanical is preferred)
•    Extensive experience with building energy systems (e.g., HVAC, controls, central utilities, etc.)
•    5+ years of experience in energy efficiency modeling and analysis
•    PE certification preferred. 
•    Advanced degree in engineering preferred.
•    CEM certifications are preferred.
•    Experience implementing energy conservation and performance contracts is preferred.
•    Willingness to travel (for site audits) 20% of time
