Job Summary:
PIC Group has an exciting opportunity for an Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer to support a major power plant outage in Sheboygan, WI. Reporting to the Project Manager, the Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer will be responsible for executing a wide range of electrical and instrumentation upgrades, repairs, and loop checks to ensure the unit is prepared for long-term operation. In addition, the Electrical & Instrumentation Engineer will play a key role in supporting a Distributed Control System (DCS) upgrade during this outage, making a significant impact on the plant's reliability and efficiency. This position requires hands-on experience with power plant systems and a proactive approach to maintaining high standards of safety and quality throughout the project.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Measure and maintain the reliability and performance of plant electrical and instrumentation systems during installation, inspecting, testing, and diagnosing the operating conditions of all types of motors, generators, transformers, switches, control equipment, wiring, electrical signal and communication systems, and storage batteries, and work with electrical systems up to and including 4,160 volts.
• Perform instrumentation check out and electrical verification activities including loop check verification, calibration of equipment, systems, and facilities.
• Operates electronic instrumentation and related electro-mechanical or electro-hydraulic apparatus used in the operations and control of electrical power plant generating equipment according to engineering data, characteristics of equipment in use, and capabilities of procurable test apparatus.
• Performs preventive and corrective maintenance of control and test apparatus and peripheral equipment.
• Operates apparatus during test cycle to produce, regulate, and record effects of actual or simulated conditions such as vibration, stress, temperature, humidity, pressure, altitude, and acceleration.
• Analyzes and converts test data to usable form and prepares reports to translate test results.
• Assist in planning and implementation of test programs.
• Monitor engineering support to ensure it is responsive to contractor needs.
• Monitor construction work quality, costs, and schedule report variances to eliminate negative impacts.
• Monitor contractor safety performance.
• Provide ongoing communication of project issues, information, safety, and quality to contractors.
• Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
• Extensive knowledge of electrical and instrumentation systems used in current power plant systems and equipment.
• Knowledge power plant controls and communication systems.
• Ability to read, write, and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
• Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
• Ability and willingness to work well with others and be self-directed with respect to assigned responsibilities is required.
• Ability to understand and work from electrical schematics, P&ID, and control system logic diagrams is required.
• Proficient in the use of hand and power-driven tools.
• The ability to apply creative solutions to unique I&C problems is desirable.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and teamwork skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Proficient with use of Microsoft Office Products (Access, Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook).
Physical Requirements:
• Duties require walking, standing for extended periods of time, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders and stairs, and lifting and carrying up to 20 lbs. Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
• The frequent use of protective equipment (i.e., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection, etc.) may be required.
Education / Experience:
• Electrical Engineering Degree, Technology Certification, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years instrumentation, electrical and controls experience on similar power generation projects.
• Experience with Distributed Control Systems (DCS) is preferred.
