External Job Description: HII Mechanical is hiring a Metrology Technician to support our Technical Services department at our industrial manufacturing facilities located in Newport News, VA.
Position requires candidate to have effective communication skills (verbal/written) at all levels of the organization and keen attention to detail. Must be proficient with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, etc.). Additionally, candidates must have the ability to support any shift and work facility (all local to Newport News, VA).
Technical proficiency in the utilization of Spatial Analyzer Metrology software is required to successfully perform complex part analysis to measured artifacts and Project Scope Management.
Utilizes metrology calibrated systems and techniques to measure characteristics of objects based on applied principles of measurement science. Performs measurement surveys using Photogrammetry, Total Stations, Laser Trackers, CMMís or other electronic 3D instruments. Uses 3D model based software and design drawings to plan and execute the measurement survey including the analysis of the collected data to the end user. Develops, coordinates, and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design. Recommends design or test methods utilizing metrology methodologies for the achievement of product reliability. Compiles and analyzes measured data reports, includes analysis of relevant variables potentially affecting product and processes. May utilize Visual Basic to enhance the functionality of 3D measurement software.
Basic Qualifications: Apprentice graduate and 6 years of experience, or Associate's Degree/2 year technical degree in a relevant field and 6 years of experience.
Must have the ability to act as a liaison with both internal and external stakeholders with the ability to meet objectives and present information to the Technical warrant holder.
Ability to work a variable schedule including weekends and overtime (as needed) is required. Some travel may be required
Preferred Qualifications: Preferred skills/experience include:
*Comprehensive knowledge of Configuration Management and a systematic approach for the coordination of large scale projects.
*The ability to utilize the scripting functionality of the Metrology software for the purpose of Metrology process automation.
*The ability to provide project oversight for long term Metrology projects along with the management of Metrology surveys in manufacturing and shipboard construction.
*Experience with CAD software and Engineering Design processes is a plus
Having a solid understanding of GD&T with the ability to interpret working drawings or models being utilized in construction is a plus. Project oversight in the areas of Design Engineering, Program Construction and Production is strongly preferred.
