Project Manager II - Direct Hire

The ideal candidate must have at least 7 years Marine/Shipyard experience as a PM.

Job Purpose:

Coordinates all facets of the management of moderate to higher-level new construction project(s) to which he/she is assigned. This includes, but is not limited to management of the planning, scheduling, estimating, negotiating, acquisition of materials, progress evaluation and reporting. The Project Manager is tasked with responsibility for each project execution such that a quality product is delivered on time and with effort of efficiency to achieve established budget.

Education and/or Experience:

High school diploma or equivalent, or
degree or certificate from an accredited college or technical school, or
5-10 years related shipyard or project management and/or engineering experience
equivalent combination of education and experience

Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following.
ensure that the project is managed and completed on time, with emphasis on efficiency to achieve planned budget
provide resources and guidance to ensure that a quality product is built to specification and regulatory requirements and that the contract is adhered to by all parties
negotiate with vendors and customers to optimize project profitability
assist in development of bid and change order estimates
ensures corporate business systems have been properly set up for project (project job & hull no.)
conduct required timely project meetings including build strategy and kick-off meetings
serve as point of contact between company, customer, and sub-contractors
oversee preparation of labor & material tasks in accordance with company Standard Ship Work Breakdown Structure (SWBS)
assist Planning & Scheduling with preparation/release of Work Packages by assigning project charge codes as information is released to production.
establish labor/material management reserves
oversee project construction schedule
prepare/review/approve material requisitions; forward to Purchasing for timely issuing of Purchase Orders and procurement of materials
review/approve service invoices based on performance progress payments
review/update project status & progress
oversee development of required monthly project Estimate at Completion (EAC) report
review/procure sub-contract service agreements (engineering, electrical installation, joiner installation, painting sub-contractors, etc., etc.)
coordinate subcontractor work schedules & scope w/ production
conduct weekly project meetings w/ production, service sub-contractors, and engineering
advise and assist preparation and submit timely customer invoicing
oversee and implement contract change process
conduct or prepare a written post mortem at project completion
manage project files in accordance with company standards
adhere to company ISO procedures and standards especially those established for Project Management

knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods
knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in construction
knowledge of business and project management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources
knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, spreadsheets, managing files and records, and other office procedures and industry standard terminology
the ability to communicate information and ideas in writing or speaking so others will understand
the ability to read and understand information and ideas presented in writing, giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times
ability to read and interpret project related drawings, documents and spreadsheets
ability to write routine reports and effective correspondence
ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees
ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
the ability to choose the right mathematical methods or formulas to solve a problem
basic understanding of units of measure and conversions

Working Conditions:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee may encounter while performing the essential functions of this job:
wet or humid conditions (non-weather), working near moving mechanical parts, working in high, precarious places
assists personnel in work areas, including confined spaces
random off-site business travel both locally & overnight stays out of town
extended time offshore on dock and sea trials of vessels constructed including before & after normal business hours

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Project Manager is frequently required to stand and visit the jobsite construction areas (minimum of two hours while conducting regular work duties) and to walk, sit, use hands and fingers, reach with hands and arms; climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl on board vessels and barges.
