[Shipfitter] 1st Class Shipfitter Marinette, WI - $30/hour + $120/day per diem

This position is responsible steel and aluminum structural work in all stages of repair, construction, and modernization of marine vessels including US Naval Vessels, Military Sealift Command, and commercial ships and barges. The position requires a working knowledge of procedures, strong mechanical aptitude and ability and be able to follow directions. Must possess experience in the trade, knowledge of ship terminology, blueprint reading, measurements, and the ability to interpret job specifications and drawings.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Position requires a high school diploma or equivalent.

Must have a minimum of five (5) years of ship fitting and tack welding experience along with a general knowledge of blueprints and hand tools is preferred.

QUALIFICATIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications, using straightedge, combination square, calipers, and ruler.
2. Cuts work piece, using powered saws, hand shears, or chipping knife.
3. Experience fabricating templates, squaring plates, scribing in structures, and installing perpendiculars on ships in accordance with drawings, specifications, or sketches.
4. Experience using oxy-acetylene torch for cutting and washing.
5. Welding experience: SMAW (S-11A) (fillet) FCAW (S-1) (fillet) GMAW (S-25) (fillet)
6. Possess a working understanding of the aluminum 5XXX process.
7. Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
8. Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
9. Experience using hand and power tools safely including but not limited to mauls, grinders, circular and reciprocating saws, and hand and magnetic drill.
10. Understand the proper use and operation of structural shop fabrication equipment, including shears, punches, and brakes.
11. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals using US customary measurement system.
12. Possess a working knowledge of, and be able to take measurements using the metric system.
13. Must be physically and medically capable to wear all required personal protective equipment (PPE) required for the job as prescribed under OSHA standards. PPE includes hard hat, safety glasses, steel toe shoes, goggles, respirator, safety harness, safety line, flotation gear, etc.)
