Immediate need for an experienced Technician to install and maintain substation relay & SCADA equipment.
Perform all phases of substation construction including but not limited to reading and understanding blue prints and schematic drawings, AC and DC systems, conduit and cable raceways, grounding systems, pulling and terminating low voltage cable, control installation, metering and relay panels.
Assist in the training of Apprentice System Protection Technician in the safe methods and practices; provide record keeping, documentation, as required.
Assist with general housekeeping, taking proper care of tools, vehicles, equipment, Medina/Yarbrough buildings, service yard, and materials.
Perform scheduled 24-hour “on call” assignments.
Maintain records of all relay equipment serviced, repaired, tested, or upgraded. Initiate and maintain documentation and log completed work tickets.
Read, review, and identify any issues that need to be addressed prior to following switching orders in accordance with client Switching Procedures.
Perform switching on equipment at all voltages as directed by the power system coordinator or supervisor in accordance with clients established practices.
Deal courteously, efficiently, and safely with customers and fellow employees.
Analyze and resolve problems, and/or assist with installation, trouble-shooting, and maintenance of electrical instruments, capacitor banks and their controls, recloser, relays, voltage regulators and all protective devices and assist workers in solving problems.
Establish grounding systems within buildings and structures.
Inspect, maintain, repair and test UPS systems, station battery banks, remote terminal units (RTU’s), protective relays, control systems, and associated equipment.
Take monthly substation readings - perform monthly substation relay maintenance.
Maintain, service, upgrade, and install substation equipment in an energized environment (120-volt to 138,000-volt).
Perform all duties outdoors in inclement weather and strong winds.
Perform work within electromagnetic fields.
Promote accident prevention and follow all clients/OSHA safety practices and policies, including wearing all clients/OSHA required personal protective equipment.
Follow all clients policies and procedures and clients Rules and Regulations handbook.
Know and follow safety procedures as outlined in the latest version of the APPA Safety Manual
Must have read and understand the job duties and training needs sections of this job description.
Associates Degree in Electronics. or an equivalent combination of training and experience may qualify an inside applicant for consideration.
Must have two years experience working on, troubleshooting and programming microprocessor, digital, and electronic equipment. (RTU’s, SCADA, protective relays and control systems).
Must be able to direct and supervise the activities of groups of employees and be alert at all times, especially under emergency conditions.
Must possess knowledge of construction and functions of a wide variety of electrical equipment used in substations, such as transformers, capacitors, fusing equipment, breakers, relays, and voltage regulators.
