Great direct opportunity available for a Journeyman Meterman who has a current IBEW Certificate. You will be supporting the AMI Smart Meter Initiative in Anchorage. This is a small meter shop and you will be responsible for installs, disconnects, programming, field audits, and verifications. 90-day probationary period.

Important employment information

The Journeyman Meterman must have the following

education/experience profile:
• IBEW Certificate required with resume submittal
• Journeyman Meterman status recognized by the IBEW
• 5 years of electric meter work experience
• High school graduate
Knowledge and skills requirements:
• Basic and complex meter operating principles, power transformer operation and connections, current and voltage transformer connections/applications of wiring techniques, electrical theory including AC and DC and electrical vectors.
• Skilled in the use of hand and shop tools, testing and calibrating meters, use of sophisticated test equipment, troubleshooting and reading of electrical one-line drawings
• Ability to learn and apply department policy/procedures/organization
• Ability to meet with and work with the public (Customer)
• Ability to exert in excess of 100 pounds of force on occasion; and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly to move objects.
• Ability to climb ladders and stairs
• Ability to perform under stress (emergency / critical/unusual or dangerous situations)

The Journeyman Meterman will be qualified to perform the following responsibilities:
• Works with other metermen and/or other individuals assigned to section
• Installs/tests / troubleshoots / repairs / verifies and calibrates all types of metering to include: substations and generations station metering equipment, transformer rated, polyphaser and single phase meters, recorders. Totalizers, power analyzers, and communication devices.
• Installs and monitors all field load research equipment
• Completes paperwork as needed documenting the installations, maintenance, testing and repair of meters and metering equipment
• Installs, tests, troubleshoots and maintains communication programs, protocol and wiring for metering equipment
• Performs installation and removal of recording voltmeters and ammeters, watt/var meters, power factor meters, multi-phase instruments and other specialized test instruments; and provides analysis of results produced by such recordings equipment
• Performs metering system audits on commercial, residential, substation, generation station reporting of quantities measured
• Inspects service entrance equipment for compliance with municipality’s Electric Service requirements.
• Installs, test, troubleshoots and maintains all load research metering and associated equipment
• Responds to and perform emergency maintenance of metering equipment when available
Physical:
Work will be inside and outdoors. Extreme cold, noise, vibration, electromagnetic fields. Hazards include (but not limited to) moving mechanical parts, electrical current, high voltage and potential exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, dusts, mist, gases and/or poor ventilation.

• Candidates must have the card for journeyman status, no apprenticeship program set up.
• A significant amount of callouts and OT currently, but typically a 40 hour week. OT comes during construction season, but generally slower during winter months. All OT is paid at double time.
• Benefits package is excellent. Insurance only costs $17 per pay period or $34/month. Great plan.
