Description:
This position is responsible for engineering and in-depth technical support in the areas of Distribution Protection, Automation, Control, and Distributed Generation.
The DPAC Engineer role includes the following core activities:
• Develop protective settings for circuit breakers, reclosers, line devices, distributed generation protection, and other relay (SEL 451) controlled automated switching equipment including self-healing teams, settings templates for mid-point reclosers, auto transfer switchgear, line sensors, SCADA controlled switches and switchgear, etc.
• Support for device firmware version upgrades and interface software. Maintain database/documentation for all P&C work.
• Engineering analysis and troubleshooting for lockout events, resolve complex technical issues involving distribution protection & control of automated devices, develop sound engineering recommendations for corrective actions and protection improvements.
• Support of self-healing teams and distribution automation investments and assets deployed within FDO to modernize the grid and improve reliability.
• Review/approve DG protection and control recommendations.
• Perform periodic circuit coordination studies in accordance with established cycle.
• Provide technical training to DEF staff on protection and control philosophy, new devices, protective device deployment, and equipment operation.
• Respond to customer requests – arc flash, short circuit, impedance at deliver, coordination, etc.
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to the following:
• Applies technical expertise in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
• Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
• Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches with some guidance.
• Conducts engineering and related studies.
• Strives to continually improve job-related, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
• Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
• Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
Minimum requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
• Two or more years of experience in Electrical Distribution.
