This Opportunity
WSP is currently initiating a search for a Construction Manager for our Albany, New York office. The following locations will also be considered: Valhalla, NY; and New York City, NY. General Description: Represents owner in activities of project personnel and contractors to execute construction projects. Manages all on-site activities and ensures that all client, company, and contract requirements are properly executed. Role includes managing a small team of inspectors and safety professionals over a geographical region.


- Manages the on-site safety program and makes sure client and company safety practices are followed and all work is performed in accordance with Site Specific Safety Manual and OSHA standards.
-Evaluates plans, starting and completion times, and staffing requirements for each phase of construction projects.
-Organizes and coordinates all aspects of the construction phase of a project including schedules, cost tracking & control, document control, project reporting, quality control, change order tracking, resource assignments, and safety plans.
-Prepares and submits schedule updates and cost forecasts in accordance with weekly schedule updates from contractors by monitoring complex construction schedules and ensure compliance to schedule of all subcontractors by performing weekly coordination meetings and three-week look ahead updates to insure timely completion of the work.
-Participates in preparation of equipment and contractor bid packages and bid evaluations.
-Coordinates the procurement of tools, equipment, and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules.
-Directs personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of construction to prevent delays.
-Clear understanding of work rules established by collective bargaining crafts (unions).
-Takes a lead role in resolving construction problems, procedures, and methods through coordination with engineering personnel, inspectors, contractors, and suppliers.
-Responsible for managing client and subcontract change order requests as Owner’s representative.
-Inspects work in progress to ensure that workmanship conforms to specifications, quality, and the adherence to construction schedules.
-Prepares or reviews reports on progress, materials used and costs, and adjusts work schedules as indicated by reports.
-Conducts oversight of construction activities within federal, state, local environmental rules and regulations.
-Assists in coordination of construction activities between different contractors
-Effectively communicate with the project team, client, and contractors.
-Participates in project design activities by performing necessary constructability reviews of design.
-Participates in project cost estimating.
-Establish, maintain, monitor and close-out all necessary documentation on project (Owner, Engineer and Contract), including but not limited to:
a. Drawing/specification updates,
b. Request for Information (RFIs),
c. Engineering/supplier submittals,
d. Daily field reports,
e. Meeting minutes,
f. Change order requests,
g. Testing instructions
-Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to -WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
-Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Required Qualifications:

-Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Construction Management or 10+ years of progressive experience in electric utility industry experience in lieu of degree.
-Essential professional licensure/certification(s).
-Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Project or Equivalent.
-Valid state driver’s license. Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
-Must be willing to travel to construction sites on a day-to-day basis, attend meetings.
-Well-defined knowledge of construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods, and techniques.
-Well-defined knowledge of relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.
-Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.
-Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.
-Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
-Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.
-Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.
-Proficient with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.
-Competent critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from inspection and testing results, and data collation arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
-Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
-Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.
-The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States or be able to obtain work authorized status in the United States prior to the start of employment.

Preferred Qualifications
-Journeyman Lineman or equivalent training though Labor Union or Utility training certification program.
-Certified Utility Safety Professional
-OSHA 30
-Certified First Aid / CPR
-Underground Transmission, Submarine Cable installation, and other relevant HV electrical and construction experience
-Experience working in Railroad ROW
